Hello Everyone,

Welcome to the 2013 peace celebrations, this year we pray for Peace so we may connect to the universal sounds of love.  We will open on the International Day of Peace, September 21st in the Celebrations Plaza with our annual candle light ceremony, lighting the World Peace Flame, Whistler Singers, Children’s Chorus, poetry will be shared and a beautiful meditation prayer.
There are many, many Peace initiatives around the world we hope you will take the time to see the amazing work other communities are doing!
“It is also our hope for everyone who attends the peace celebrations that each person feels connected to the spirit of peace within themselves, and to one another.  With strength and courage to see the best in ourselves, the gifts we can offer the world, and compassion for those around us, moving us forward with kindness and love in our hearts. If we can all take a moment during our celebrations to take to heart the messages in the week of peace, we will be creating a better future for ourselves, each other, our children and the planet.  It’s our pleasure, and our gift, to bring the community together to celebrate a week to journey into Peace”.

Even more so, thank you for sharing the peace logo you created.  I have looked at it several times since you sent it, and always feel so centered by it.  Its so stunning its simplicity, yet deep symbolism.  Each gaze upon it reveals some new consideration for the soul.

Thank you Caterina!  With good wishes for your healing work~~~~~~~~~~~~

Testimonial:

Dear Caterina
Thank you so much for all of the work you put into making peace day a memorable experience for us.  We attended the opening prayer service, movie, and had a reading done at the Cultural Center.  Because of your efforts-peace was a priority in our home and a theme for my birthday on Sept. 20.
As a guest in Whistler I became bonded to your community through the activities surrounding the Day of Peace celebrations.  The natural beauty of this place is obvious, as is the attraction of a mountain lifestyle.
Many communities could boast offering similar perks, however, attending the opening prayer ceremony for the Day of Peace gave me a feel for just how lovely this town and its people are.   I also attended the movie night and the metaphysical fair.  Your events gave me a concrete reason to return to Whistler, and to tell my friends to do the same for the Day of Peace activities next year.
I happened upon a notice for these events in the Blenz coffee shop.  Might I suggest that the town promote this event more directly?  As a “tourist”, I was looking for something to experience that set Whistler apart from other locations I have visited – the Day of Peace festivities fit that desire to a “T”.
Thank You for your efforts.  I look forward to seeing you again next September,
Many Thanks and Blessings,
Marjorie Wolter & Peter

PRESS RELEASE – 2010

Whistler, British Columbia – Tuesday, September 7, 2010
Caterina Alberti, a Certified, Executive Business Coach, long-time Whistler resident and small business owner, brings a special event and evening of celebration for the International Day of Peace – Tuesday, September 21st, 2010. Join her, and special guests at the Squamish Lilwat Cultural Centre, and help to raise funds for the Howe Sound Women’s Centre & The Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers.
Inspired by the opportunity to create a special screening in the Sea to Sky Corridor of the Award Winning Film – ‘For the Next 7 Generations’, on the International Day of Peace, Caterina is thrilled to have several special guests and together, create an unforgettable evening of community and peace. The event promises to leave each attendee feeling connected to the human spirit, and inspired.
This film takes its audience on a momentous journey of the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers, from all 4 corners of the world, as they travel around the globe to promote peace and share their Indigenous ways of healing. Through their teachings, these grandmothers are lighting a way to a peaceful, sustainable planet. “In all our deliberations, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the Next Seven Generations’.
This film is inspired by this quote – From the Great Law of the Iroquois Constitution. www.forthenext7generations.com Following the film screening, attendees will participate in a drumming circle in the Istken Hall, led by Local First Nations Artisan – Xwalacktun (Rick Harry). Xwalacktun just completed carving the Whistler Blackcomb Salish Welcome Figure, that was brought to the top of Whistler Mountain and celebrated in ceremony in early September, 2010. Special Guests to the evening also include two local First Nations Grandmothers – Xwalacktun’s own mother, Gwen Harry, who comes from the Squamish Nation, and also another grandmother from the Lilwat Nation. The evening will end with a special meditation, and prayer for peace.
“My hope for everyone that attends this event is for each person to connect to the spirit within themselves, and to one another. Through spirituality, we find the best of ourselves, our gifts to offer the world, and compassion for those around us, moving us forward in the direction of peace. If we can all take a moment on this day to take to heart the messages here in this film, we will be creating a better future for ourselves, each other, and the rest of the planet”, says Caterina. “It’s my pleasure, and my gift, to offer this evening to the community to come out and celebrate the International Day of Peace”.
Event is open to the public, from 6:00pm to 9:30pm, Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the Squamish Lilwat Cultural Centre.
Tickets are $20 each, are transferable, not refundable and are available from the Squamish Lilwat Cultural Centre, and from sponsor Fruv Freedom Wear (Marketplace, Whistler).
