PRESS RELEASE – 2010
Whistler, British Columbia – Tuesday, September 7, 2010
Caterina Alberti, a Certified, Executive Business Coach, long-time Whistler resident and small business owner, brings a special event and evening of celebration for the International Day of Peace – Tuesday, September 21st, 2010. Join her, and special guests at the Squamish Lilwat Cultural Centre, and help to raise funds for the Howe Sound Women’s Centre & The Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers.
Inspired by the opportunity to create a special screening in the Sea to Sky Corridor of the Award Winning Film – ‘For the Next 7 Generations’, on the International Day of Peace, Caterina is thrilled to have several special guests and together, create an unforgettable evening of community and peace. The event promises to leave each attendee feeling connected to the human spirit, and inspired.
This film takes its audience on a momentous journey of the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers, from all 4 corners of the world, as they travel around the globe to promote peace and share their Indigenous ways of healing. Through their teachings, these grandmothers are lighting a way to a peaceful, sustainable planet. “In all our deliberations, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the Next Seven Generations’.
This film is inspired by this quote – From the Great Law of the Iroquois Constitution. www.forthenext7generations.com Following the film screening, attendees will participate in a drumming circle in the Istken Hall, led by Local First Nations Artisan – Xwalacktun (Rick Harry). Xwalacktun just completed carving the Whistler Blackcomb Salish Welcome Figure, that was brought to the top of Whistler Mountain and celebrated in ceremony in early September, 2010. Special Guests to the evening also include two local First Nations Grandmothers – Xwalacktun’s own mother, Gwen Harry, who comes from the Squamish Nation, and also another grandmother from the Lilwat Nation. The evening will end with a special meditation, and prayer for peace.
“My hope for everyone that attends this event is for each person to connect to the spirit within themselves, and to one another. Through spirituality, we find the best of ourselves, our gifts to offer the world, and compassion for those around us, moving us forward in the direction of peace. If we can all take a moment on this day to take to heart the messages here in this film, we will be creating a better future for ourselves, each other, and the rest of the planet”, says Caterina. “It’s my pleasure, and my gift, to offer this evening to the community to come out and celebrate the International Day of Peace”.
Event is open to the public, from 6:00pm to 9:30pm, Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the Squamish Lilwat Cultural Centre.
Tickets are $20 each, are transferable, not refundable and are available from the Squamish Lilwat Cultural Centre, and from sponsor Fruv Freedom Wear (Marketplace, Whistler).
